Insurance around your home and your work
A mortgage is arranged in a day; the years afterwards your situation simply has to keep working. So when you buy a home we look straight away at what else is needed — and above all at what is not.
Below are the types of insurance we advise on, by group. What you need depends on your home, your family and your work; this page is meant to give you a picture, not to sell you something.
Around your home
What can go wrong to or inside your house, and what you can be liable for.
Buildings insurance
For damage to the building itself: the walls, the roof, the fixed installations. Virtually every lender requires it before you get the keys.
Everyone buying a home
Contents insurance
For your belongings rather than the building: furniture, equipment, clothing. Exactly where the line between building and contents falls differs per policy; we check that with you.
Renters and buyers
Personal liability insurance
For damage you or someone in your household causes to another person. A small policy that is rarely needed, which is exactly why it gets forgotten.
Private individuals, often per household
Personal
What happens to your housing costs if something happens to you.
Term life insurance
Pays out on death, so your partner or family can stay in the house. A lender sometimes requires it; more often it is your own choice, based on what is left without your income.
Especially with a joint mortgage
Legal expenses insurance
Legal help in a dispute, for instance with a builder, a neighbour or an employer. Which subjects are included varies a great deal per policy.
Private individuals and entrepreneurs
For entrepreneurs
If you work for yourself, there is no employer to fall back on.
Disability insurance
Replaces income if illness or an accident stops you working. For an entrepreneur with a mortgage this is often the single most important policy, and also the most expensive; so we look closely at the waiting period, the term and the insured amount.
Freelancers, partnerships and directors
Business liability insurance
For damage you or your staff cause to others while working. Clients regularly ask for it before letting you start a job.
Entrepreneurs working at client sites
Professional indemnity insurance
For loss caused by a mistake in your advice or your work, rather than by something falling over. Mainly relevant in advisory and design professions.

Frequently asked questions about insurance
No. We look at what you need and what you already have. If something you hold fits well, we leave it alone. Being insured twice costs money without giving you anything.
Buildings insurance is required almost without exception. Term life insurance sometimes, depending on the lender and your situation. The rest is your own judgement.
That depends on your home, your family, your profession and the cover you choose. We publish no premiums on this site, because any figure here is misleading without your situation. In a conversation we set it out for you.
Yes. An overview of what you have, what overlaps and what is missing is often enough on its own. What you do next is up to you.
Usually with your income: what happens to your housing costs if you cannot work for a year. Only after that with liability. We go through it in that order.
